Privacy Policy

Effective November 5, 2026

This policy explains how the ReadLevel AI app for iPhone ("the app") handles information. The short version: the app has no accounts, no ads, no analytics, and no tracking. The only thing that leaves your phone is the photo you choose to scan, and it's used only to work out the reading level.

Photos you scan

When you tap scan, the app sends that photo of the page over an encrypted connection to our server (hosted on Google Firebase). The server passes the photo to Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic, which reads the text and returns the reading level. Our server doesn't save the photo. It only forwards it to Claude and sends the result back to the app.

Anthropic handles the photo under its commercial terms, which don't allow it to use the photo to train its AI models. You can read Anthropic's privacy policy for details.

We don't use your photos for advertising, sell them, or use them to identify you. Please scan book pages only, not photos of people or personal documents.

Scan history

Your scan history (the page image, book title, and result) is saved only on your iPhone. It isn't uploaded to our server. You can delete it at any time from the History tab, and deleting the app deletes it too.

Purchases

Scan packs and subscriptions are processed by Apple. We never see your name, Apple ID, or payment details. We only receive confirmation from Apple that a purchase is active.

What we don't collect

• No account, name, email address, or phone number is required.
• No location, contacts, or other photos from your library.
• No analytics, crash-reporting, advertising, or tracking tools.

Children

The app is designed for parents and teachers and is suitable for all ages. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Photos of book pages are not personal information, and no account or contact details are requested.
